The M5J model was made in the mid 1980s in Yamaha’s Hamamatsu factory, where their best pianos are still built. Although no longer made, this model remains popular due to its relatively compact size, good tone and excellent value. This particular piano has been very well cared for by the previous owners and would be suitable for taking anyone through the grades and an ideal upgrade from a keyboard or digital piano. 
 
 
Tone and tuning
 
This piano has a lovely rich and bright tone with a good balance between brightness and warmth, and a big dynamic range for a fairly small piano. Good strong bass and the treble is nice and clear and bell like. Tuned to concert pitch (A=440). Middle pedal operates a mute rail for very quiet practice. 
 
 
Keyboard & action
 
The full 88 note keyboard is in very good condition and the action has just been regulated so plays smoothly across the whole keyboard with a very responsive medium weight touch.
 
 
Hammers and strings
 
Very little wear in the hammers - this piano has had a fairly easy life! Strings also in excellent condition.
 
 
Sound board
 
Perfect condition, solid spruce, no cracks or splits
 
 
Case
 
This is a lovely looking instrument in a natural, open pore mahogany finish and is in very good condition throughout - this piano has been very well cared for indeed and has hardly a mark on it. Matching adjustable piano stool included (not the stool in the photos). 
 
 
Dimensions 
 
108cm tall x 54 deep x 148 wide (widest point at top lid). A small sized upright that punches above its weight!
