This is a very good quality piano made by the well regarded Samick company in S Korea in 1995. Their pianos are mainly seen under the Reid-Sohn (a UK importer) brand in the UK and are very popular with schools and colleges due to their excellent build quality, great value for money and rich and pleasant tone. Samick are one of the world’s largest manufacturer of musical instruments and their piano making operations have seen collaborations with many top brands including Bechstein and Seiler in Germany. Their quality certainly rivals the Japanese manufacturers such as Yamaha and Kawai but with a significantly lower price tag. This SU-118 is a lovely looking and sounding piano for beginners to advanced players, with very little use so far. It would be a great option for someone looking for a high quality alternative to the benchmark Yamaha U1 at a much lower price . We usually have several Yamaha U1s in stock for comparison.
Tone and tuning
Lovely rich tone, with strong bass and bell like treble, and a very good dynamic range. Has just been tuned to concert pitch (A=440). This piano features a 3rd pedal for very quiet practice.
Keyboard and action
The full size 88 note keyboard is in excellent condition and the action has just been regulated so plays smoothly across the whole keyboard with a medium weight action, which will suit most players, including beginners.
Hammers and strings
As visible on the photos there is very little wear in the hammers and the strings are in excellent condition also.
Sound board
Excellent condition spruce, no cracks or splits.
Case
Very nice looking mahogany case with high gloss polyester lacquer. In good to very good condition throughout - there were some dents and chips etc which we have tidied up, as well as buffing the case to restore its shine. You can still see some blemishes very close up but overall its a lovely looking piano. The piano is on castors for easy moving and matching adjustable stool is included in the sale.
Dimensions
118cm tall, 150 wide, 61 deep. Just very slightly shorter than a U1 with the sound you’d expect from a fairly tall upright.
